THE IMPORTANCE OF DRIVER EDUCATION
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15 to 17-year olds. Driver education and training provides information, skills and attitudes designed to produce safer drivers who are less likely to be involved in crashes.
IMPORTANCE OF PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Parents and guardians play a vital role in their teens’ driver education experience. A study conducted by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has found that “teens who perceive their parents as authoritative are half as likely to crash, 71% less likely to drive intoxicated, and 30% less likely to use a cell phone when driving” than teens who perceive their parents as uninvolved.
The American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association (ADTSEA) developed this course to assist parents and guardians in getting involved with their teens’ learning-to-drive experience.
The course is designed to help parents and guardians:
learn about the risks of driving and how to conduct effective risk-management of their teen driver;
decide whether or not their teen is ready to drive;
model safe driving behavior; and
access state specific Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) information easily.
No need to sit in a classroom or even leave your home with this online course!

BENEFITS TO PARENTS
Learning to drive can be a scary and stressful experience for both teens and parents.
As a teen, driving is a new skill that needs to be learned and taken seriously. As a parent, you are trusting your teen with your auto-investment for the first time. Most importantly, you are watching your child get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle knowing the risks of driving.
This self-paced online course can help you prepare for this critical time in your teen’s life. It will help ease you into your teen’s learning-to-drive experience, show you how to conduct effective risk-management and describe restrictions you can place on your teen in an effort to ensure their safety.
BENEFITS TO DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND STATES
Provides an alternative to in-person Parent/Guardian Seminars.
Parent/Guardian Seminars are difficult for some parents/guardians to attend and mandatory seminars are challenging to require. This seminar provides an online self-paced alternative to educate parents/guardians on how to manage their teens’ risk during the learning-to-drive experience.
